Gold Cup Final 2013, USA vs Panama results: USA wins 1-0

USA! USA! USA!

Okay, so they United States doesn’t have as good of an eponymous song as “Panama,” but that hardly mattered on the soccer pitch of the 2013 Gold Cup final on Sunday. The United States men’s soccer team dominated the Panamanian squad and came away with an impressive 1-0 win thanks to a goal in the 69th minute from Brek Shea, who scored barely a minute after entering the game for Joe Corona Crespin. US soccer legend Landon Donovan recorded the assist on the play.

The game was a clean one, with only one yellow cared being handed out (to Alejandro Bedoya in the 63rd minute). In terms of possession, the United States bested Panama to the tune of 70% to 30%. There was a similar discrepancy in shots on goal, with the United States recording 12 and Panama only managing 6.

Needless to say, it is an awesome day to be a soccer fan in the United States (those exist, right?). We’ll be bringing you reactions from the game as they come in.
