Halloween events for pets: costume parties, parades and prizes for the dogs of New York

Pumpkins may be in short supply this year, but there's no lack of Halloween benefit bashes, pet parades or spook-tacular costume options for dressing up your four-legged friends.

Tickets range from free to $150, with most proceeds going toward helping needy animals.

Here's just a sampling of upcoming Halloween fetes. Check your local dog run, pet supply store or even apartment building to see if they've also got something brewing.

  • Oct. 22: Head to the East Village for the 21st annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade. Last year's wild bash featured 300 creatively dressed pups. There will be prizes and treats, and iPods for winner of Best in Show and Lucky Raffle. From noon to 3 p.m. at the Tompkins Square Dog Run, along Ninth St. For more info, go to www.firstrunfriends.org.

  • Oct. 26: Join lifestyle experts Wendy and Lucky Diamond for Animal Fair's 11th Annual Animal "Bark-tacular" Halloween Costume Benefit.

Dylan Lauren, Tinsley Mortimer and Bravo TV's "Mad Fashion" star Chris March will be among the celebrity judges who will award best costume. Tickets are $100, with proceeds going to Humane Society of NY. Call Anne Marie at (212) 752-4842 or go to www.animalfair.com

  • Oct. 27: Bobbi and the Strays annual Halloween Masquerade Ball promises a crazy evening of food, drinks, music, raffles, auctions and best costume prizes.   • Oct. 28: Pups on the Runway Halloween Costume Ball Stylish will feature costumes stitched by local designers. Attendees are welcome to bring leashed dogs.   • Oct. 29: The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals is hosting its very first Creature's Ball, with food, drink and music by indie band Vampire Weekend deejay Rostam Batmanglij. From 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Surrogate's Court, 31 Chambers St. Tix are $150 go to save needy animals. Buy tix at http://bit.ly/cbnyc. Costumes requested and attendees must be 21.

  • Oct. 29: The Fort Tryon Dog Owner's Group will host its Howl-o-Ween Extravaganza from 11 a.m. to noon at Sir William's Dog Run in Inwood. A $5 entrance fee can win you great prizes.

  • Oct. 29: Brooklyn's Fort Greene Pups presents the 13th Annual Great Pumpkin Dog Costume Contest at the Fort Greene Monument Stairs. Registration at 11:30 a.m.; judging from noon-1 p.m. Suggested donation is $5.

  • Oct. 30: The party will be on at the Washington Square Park Dog Halloween Party from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the large dog run. A $5 admission fee covers a raffle ticket for great prizes, plus face painting and treats. Gawkers allowed. For info, go to www.wspdr.org.

  • Oct. 30: Sean Casey Animal Rescue's fourth annual Howl-o-Ween Howl Block Bark runs from noon to 6 p.m. in Brooklyn. Proceeds will go toward completing SCAR's second rescue shelter facility. A $10 donation gets you a SCAR rescue bracelet; $25 a T-shirt, $30 for both. The event will be held at 153 E.
