Staying on track with your New Year’s Fitness Resolutions may seem almost impossible to do, especially if you haven’t been able to keep them in the past. It isn’t, though! Here are 5 Tips & Tricks to keep you motivated:

1. Start Small Many people start with a long list of goals, and that’s why they fail at reaching them. They overwhelm themselves before they even start. Set small goals for each month, like eating healthier in January, cutting calories in February, and doing three days of cardio exercises in March. By doing this you build on your previous successes as you work toward a larger goal.

2. Set realistic goals You’re not going to lose 30 pounds in one month, but it is feasible to lose 8 pounds in that time frame. Set your goals as something you can achieve; make them attainable and something that will benefit you in the long run. If you see the long-term benefits, you’ll be more likely to accomplish them.

3. Keep visuals near If your goal is to fit into a size eight by swimsuit season, keep a visual of that goal. For example, a picture of you at that size will help you see that you once were that size so you can be again. If your goal is to eat healthier, having a nutrition chart on your refrigerator can help you focus on what you should eat. If you want to quit smoking, post pictures in your home or office of a loved one that died from smoking to remind yourself of what smoking can do. Visuals are powerful and they work.

4. Track your progress How are you making sure your goals are being accomplished? Track progress weekly by keeping a chart or a journal. This will show you that you are slowly, but surely reaching your overall goals.

5. Reward yourself Do you work for free? Probably not, and you shouldn’t cheat yourself out of payment for your hard work on your resolutions. When you set and achieve goal for each month, give yourself a reward to work for. In January, treat yourself to a mani-pedi or a spa day. In February, you get a new dress, and so on. This will give you something to look forward to aside from the joy of making your resolutions happen.
